WAILUKU, Maui (AP) — Protesters plan to again gather near Central Maui Baseyard in hopes of stopping construction materials for a telescope atop Haleakala from making it to their destination.
The gathering was announced after officials last week said they would again try to deliver equipment for the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope.
Maui County officials say they respect the protesters right to demonstrate, but if they do something illegal — such as block the road — they will be taken into custody.
A wide-load convoy full of materials was postponed June 24 when groups blocked the road with an overnight candlelight vigil.
