Hawaii Prep intercepted Kamehameha quarterback Micah Kanehailua five times on Saturday en route to a 19-10 win in Big Island Interscholastic Federation football.
Bobby Lum’s 30-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter sealed the victory for the Ka Makani, which rallied from a 7-0 halftime deficit. Lum also scored a rushing touchdown to go along with his 87 yards.
HPA improved to 5-3 in Division II (3-0 in the second round) and 5-5 overall. Kamehameha fell to 6-2 (2-1) and 9-2.
HPA took the lead when Koa Ellis hit Mike Nakahara for a score to make it 12-7. Ellis intercepted two passes from the safety spot. Kellen Gillins and Lii Purdy had the other interceptions.
Teofilo Faaolaina led the Warriors with 61 yards rushing. Kanehailua went 6 for 24 for 96 yards and one touchdown.
For HPA, Ellis went 4 for 6 for 43 yards and the touchdown. He also ran seven times for 48 yards.
