Born on Oahu, he was a retired lineman for Hawaii Electric Light Co., U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former member of Civitan Club and Waimea Hawaiian Civic Club. Joe Minoru Ono, 88, of Honomu died Aug. 11 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Bakersfield, Calif., he was co-owner of Evergreen Nursery there, a U.S. Army veteran, avid bowler, golfer and fisherman, and at 15 was forcibly moved with his family during World War II to Poston War Relocation Center in Arizona.
