Dorothy “Mudder” May Barber, 83, of Hilo died Aug. 21 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., she was a former deputy sheriff. Services held. Survived by sons, Arvin F. Barber of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Michael (Alanna) Barber of Hilo; sister-in-law, Shirley (Jay) Odem of South Carolina; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins. Jack Tetsuyuki Tagawa, 89, of Hilo died Aug. 19 at home. Born in Wailea, he was a retired state Department of Education accountant, U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Services held.
