The UH-Hilo’s men’s golf team had a rough first day at the Western Washington Invitational, shooting 35-over 611 after 36 holes Monday in Bellingham, Wash.
Senior Kyeton Littel fired a 1-under 71 in the second round and was tied for 25th at 3-over 147.
Dixie State’s Kenny You led the 70-player field at 4-under, and the Red Storm were also in first place, 41 shots in front of the last-place Vulcans.
UH-Hilo senior Ric Yamamoto was 8-over in a tie for 50th; sophomore James Coon was tied for 55th at 11-over; freshman Jared Kinoshita was 13-over in a tie for 61st; and sophomore David Tottori was 20-over in a tie for 68th.
Soccer honors: A pair of Lady Vulcans were honored by the Pacific West Conference after a trip to Oahu netted a victory and a draw.
Junior goalkeeper Jenna Hufford was named Defender of the Week, earning her second shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory against Chaminade and making seven saves against BYU-Hawaii in a 1-1 tie.
Freshman Tiera Arakawa netted the overtime goal to clinch the victory against Chaminade and was named Freshman of the Week.
