Man pleads not guilty in stabbing
HONOLULU (AP) — A 26-year-old man has entered a plea of not guilty in the fatal stabbing of his friend.
Jacob Le’s lawyer entered the plea Monday on behalf of his client charged in the death of 23-year-old Brent “Keola” Kanae.
Kanae was found unconscious and bleeding with stab wounds to his chest in an open stairwell at Ala Moana Shopping Center on Oct. 3. Le has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held on $250,000 bail. Le and the victim were in the same dance crew and both lived in Kapahulu.
Beef from Oahu firm is recalled
HONOLULU (AP) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture says a Honolulu company is recalling more than 4,000 pounds of ground beef products distributed to Oahu restaurants because the products may be contaminated with E. coli.
The department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said Monday Higa Meat & Pork Market is recalling 10 pound bags of “Higa Market-Ground Beef Bulk.”
The products were produced last Wednesday and distributed to restaurants on Oahu.
Each case is marked with the establishment number “EST. 12457M” inside the USDA mark of inspection. It also features an identifying case code number “291.” The service and the company haven’t received any reports of anyone getting sick because they ate the beef.
Maui beach closes for shark
WAILUKU, Maui (AP) — A Maui beach was expected to be open Tuesday, unless there is another sighting of a shark chasing and attacking a turtle.
Ocean Safety Officers closed a one-mile stretch of Kanaha Beach Park for a couple of hours on Monday after seeing the shark attack the sea turtle at about 3:30 p.m. A crowd of 40 beachgoers saw the attack in which the turtle’s right front fin was lacerated. The beach is the same one where on Thursday an 8-foot shark bit the board of a stand-up paddler.
