Ka‘anohiokala Pe‘a, a local, licensed massage therapist, is planning to travel to the Philippines in January as part of a Liddle Kidz Foundation Ambassador Team to teach caregivers to apply the power of healthy touch with infants and children.
Pe‘a was chosen from 3,200 applicants to be part of this 30-person team because of his integrity, professional practice and skills with children and caregivers. Pe‘a’s quest is to revitalize the ancient healing art of lomilomi for children in Hawaii and other countries. He promotes and applies pediatric massage with local community organizations, families and professionals through one-to-one sessions, workshops and presentations on the Big Island.
In 2012, Pe‘a traveled to Vietnam as a volunteer to spread the benefits of pediatric massage for varying health conditions to parents, caregivers and health care workers.
Pe‘a will travel with the team to the Philippines to provide volunteer outreach through massage and nurturing touch to orphaned, abandoned and hospitalized children and to educate caregivers and staff in therapeutic massage techniques they can use with children they serve.
