Dengue and tourism
Interesting to note that almost every edition of the Tribune-Herald has an article about dengue fever and how it was imported from a foreign country.
Also worth noting is a Dec. 9 article in the Tribune-Herald about the state and Hawaii Tourism Authority actively seeking travelers from Southeast Asia, with a population of one-half billion people. Southeast Asia is listed as an area of high dengue fever risk with increasing numbers, according to WebMD.com.
It’s all about money. Does anyone else see a problem here?

‘Sordid scenario’
1. Those Thirty Meter Telescope protesters are running rings around Gov. David Ige, the Supreme Court and the Department of Land and Natural Resources with their demands, delays, disruptions, talk of desecration and how sacred Mauna Kea is reputed to be.
The only desecration and sacredness I see rests in the eyes and minds of the beholders.
2. I hold more reverence and respect for the beaches of Normandy, sands of Iwo Jima and even Mount Suribachi, where thousands of lives were sacrificed and lost in the name of freedom.
3. Mauna Kea is a beautiful sight to behold, especially when laden with snow; however, it offers no more than an ideal location for the positioning of the TMT while allowing for probing beyond the cosmos. The process and approval for its construction was completed several years ago.
4. Now those same protesters have gotten the Supreme Court bamboozled into saying the process that led to approval of the TMT project is no longer valid because it lacked adequate representation. What a bunch of malarkey. Those protesters really think they’ve won. Greater news is coming.
5. This whole sordid scenario is funnier than clowns in a circus. But not to worry, astronomers all, for the Lord God, creator of all things, is still in charge and will make it all happen.
Imua for our TMT and astronomy. May God continue to bless our proud and precious United States of America.
