HONOLULU (AP) — A pilot is safe after problems with his landing gear forced him to ditch a single-engine Cessna in the water near Honolulu International Airport.
State Department of Transportation spokesman Tim Sakahara says the man reported his landing gear was stuck Tuesday. So rescuers were alerted as he burned off fuel and the plane went down in water off Lagoon Drive just before 2 p.m.
Sakahara says where the Cessna landed is actually a runway used by seaplanes.
The pilot was the only person on board.
Rescuers pulled him from the water. Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokeswoman Shayne Enright says the pilot is “completely fine,” with “not one scratch.”
Sakahara says the incident didn’t affect any airport operations.
