The Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra presents its most popular concert of the year, “A Salute To Youth: Embracing The Future!” at 4 p.m. March 20, featuring the three winners of the Madeline Schatz-Harris Concerto Competition performing with the full orchestra at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.
Alexander Canicosa-Miles, 12, will perform the first movement of “Concerto No. 3 in B Minor” by Georg Goltermann on the cello. William Suh, 16, will perform the first movement of the “Concerto for Violincello in B Minor” by Antonin Dvorak. Erin Nihsi, 13, will perform the first movement of the “Violin Concerto in C Major, op. 48” by Dmitri Kabalevsky.
Joining the concerto competition winners and the orchestra will be maestro Harvey Felder, the third and final candidate for the orchestra’s conductor-artistic director position.
Felder served as the music director of the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra for 20 years and currently is the director of orchestral studies at the University of Connecticut. He appeared as guest conductor with numerous orchestras around the world.
Felder also will lead the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance of “Les Preludes” by Franz Liszt, and “Symphony No. 2, The Romantic” by Howard Hanson.
