The Japanese Community Association of Hawaii is offering two $1,500 scholarship awards to high school graduates from Hawaii Island and current college students who are pursuing a degree in Japanese studies at a college or university in the United States
The Japanese Community Association of Hawaii is offering two $1,500 scholarship awards to high school graduates from Hawaii Island and current college students who are pursuing a degree in Japanese studies at a college or university in the United States and Japan as early as fall 2016.
The deadline for students to apply is March 31.
“We at JCAH are so pleased and excited to support this Japanese studies initiative,” said Janet Fujioka, scholarship award chairwoman.
Other qualifications and criteria include:
• Must be a resident of the Hawaii Island (Waimea-Naalehu). Preference will be given to graduating high school seniors whose intent is to major or minor in Japanese studies. Post-secondary students formerly from Hawaii Island also will be considered.
• Preference will be given to an applicant whose parent or guardian is a member of good standing of the Japanese Community Association of Hawaii.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Scholarship recipients will be announced at the Kodomo No Matsuri event May 14.
