The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands is seeking to provide up to $15 million for housing development in Keaukaha through loans and grants for beneficiaries.
The housing projects would focus on rehabilitation of existing dwellings, assistance for beneficiaries awarded vacant lots and subdividing larger vacant parcels, according to a draft environmental assessment released this week.
Additionally, water meters and “turnkey homes” could be installed on empty parcels with the Native Hawaiian housing block grants.
The document says DHHL will commence with the project this summer.
It would last for as long as funding or eligible applicants are available during the next five to 10 years.
There are 420 lots in Keaukaha, with 49 vacancies, according to the EA.
The population was 1,494 in 2010.
The department didn’t respond to emailed questions by press time Tuesday.
