Optimally, this honor would go to as many different Big Island athletes as possible, but Andres, a Waiakea junior right-hander, forced our hand and earned an inaugural repeat selection.
He was Athlete of the Week last year for a shortened TKO no-hitter against Hawaii Prep, but last Thursday he went the distance for a no-no — and against rival Hilo, no less.
It was the first no-hitter pitched in the longtime crosstown diamond rivalry between Hilo and Waiakea.
He walked one batter but was otherwise flawless with eight strikeouts.
As a historic repeat winner, Andres gets five new queries.
