This is a rebuttal to Rep. Mark Nakashima’s letter (Tribune-Herald, June 12) on Hu Honua.
Hu Honua has had loads of lawsuits, problems and a poor record.
Even HELCO said the need for electricity is not over in the Hamakua area, and electricity should be generated close to demand.
Roads filled with log trucks going long distances with heavy loads will further deteriorate the highway, and we allow heavier loads on our highways than I-5 in California.
This will result in higher bills, which we don’t need. There are much better alternatives at much lower costs.

‘Out of touch’
What is state Rep. Mark Nakashima thinking?
His letter to the editor in support of Hu Honua completely avoided any mention of the power plant’s long history of delays, missteps and failures. It’s a disaster!
Even HELCO doesn’t want anything to do with this power plant. Plus, the community out there hates it. Just because a handful of union guys want it doesn’t make it right.
Amazing how clueless our lawmakers are sometimes. Totally out of touch.

Flights needed
A number of local airlines are offering more flights between our islands. But it would be really great if these airlines could also offer flights from Hilo to Kona and from Kona to Hilo.
Average driving time from Hilo town to Kona International Airport is about 1.5 hours by way of Saddle Road.
Driving to the airport, parking your car, checking in, waiting to board, then taking off could take more time than driving to these destinations. But it would be really great to have someone else do the “driving” for a change.
Hawaiian Air? Mokulele? Island Air? Can one of you airline CEOs get the ball rolling on this idea?
