LIHUE, Kauai (AP) — The overturned boat of three fishermen who went missing washed up on a remote Kauai beach.
Rescue crews spotted the boat from the air several times while searching for the fishermen, who went missing during the Fourth of July weekend.
Autopsies determined two bodies found Friday off Kauai were those of two of the missing fishermen, Derek Keone Tomas of Pearl City, Oahu, and Jenson Toshio Wah Bunn Loo of Mililani, Oahu. The third fisherman, Clint Oshima of Honolulu, hasn’t been found.
The men left Haleiwa’s harbor on Oahu’s North Shore early July 3 and were expected to return later in the day.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources says one of the fishermen recently purchased the boat, but no transfer paperwork was filed. The department’s boating division reached out to the last registered owner on record to discuss options for removing the boat.
