Toshiko “Elsie” Makida, 83, of Hilo died at the Hilo Medical Center on Thursday, Nov. 8. Born in Napoopoo, Kona, she was a retired housekeeper with the former Hilo Lagoon Hotel. She was also a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Private services held. Survived by daughter, Kelly (Garth) Wilson of Hilo; son, Gordon (Carol) Makida of Hilo; brothers, George Tatsuno (Betty) Omori of Los Angeles, Calif., and Kunitoshi Omori of Honolulu, Oahu; sisters, Mie Saito of Honolulu, and Emiko (Kenneth) Sakagawa of Wailuku, Maui; sister-in-law, Geri Omori of Honolulu; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Beau Kamaki Kekuluokalani Waltjen, 17, of Hilo died Monday, Nov. 12, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a former student of Waiakea High School and Connections Public Charter School. Memorial services will be held at Hilo New Hope Church on Saturday, Nov. 24.
