Social media branding workshop offered in Hilo

Business owners looking to grow their audience and increase sales through social media are invited to attend a workshop titled “Creating Your Social Media Brand” from 9-11 a.m. Aug. 9 at Hawaii Community College.

The Small Business Development Center of East Hawaii is sponsoring the workshop as part of its ongoing commitment to provide business owners with affordable learning opportunities on practical business skills.

Business owners and their employees will learn why each social media platform requires its own unique approach in order to attract and grow an audience. Attendees also will learn the top three key elements needed to create and build a social media brand across different social media platforms, increase followers and run promotions.

In addition, the workshop reviews how to position a company as an industry leader on platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook.

The class, taught by Denise Laitinen, owner of DLC Hawaii Media, will feature real-time case studies of businesses that have grown and expanded through social media. A longtime public speaker, trainer and writer, Laitinen has spoken about social media at conferences and events throughout Hawaii.

A member of the Hawaii Social Media Club board of directors, Laitinen has organized nearly a dozen community social media events on the Big Island and taught dozens of social media classes, providing practical, easy to understand steps to business owners looking to grow their business online.

Clients who have hired Laitinen to provide social media training to their staff include the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Bishop Museum, the state House of Representatives and others.

The workshop will take place in the Kaneikeao Room of Building 379-1 and there is a $25 fee. Registration is required at www.hisbdc.org by Friday.
