Women farmers and ranchers on the Big Island across the state are invited to share insights into what is needed in order to grow their agricultural business.
The needs assessment, funded in part by the Western Center for Risk Management Education and facilitated by the Oahu Resource Conservation and Development Council, is being conducted via electronic survey until Aug. 20.
Responses will be used to identify training needs and opportunities for women farmers in the Hawaiian Islands.
The survey explores multiple production and marketing topics, as well as various legal and financial risks. Women who are engaged in the production of agricultural products, or aspire to, as well as people who assist women farmers are encouraged to respond.
“Women comprise nearly 25 percent of farm operators in Hawaii and they bring a unique perspective to managing the multiple demands of agricultural production,” said Jari Sugano, extension agent with the University of Hawaii’s Cooperative Extension Program.
“We want to identify areas where additional support and resources are needed to address their priority and unique needs,” Sugano said.
Participants can access the survey by visiting www.oahurcd.org/womenfarmers.
The nonprofit Oahu Resource Conservation and Development Council works with farm families and businesses to improve stewardship of natural, human and economic resources.
