Coffee grader earns Q status
Laura Ross of Waimea recently earned “licensed Q grader” status, the highest grading award in the coffee industry.
There are less than 350 licensed Q graders in the United States and Ross is one of the few women in Hawaii that have earned this status.
Ross was required to take 22 different tests which included identifying 36 different coffee aromas, six coffee acids, coffee origins by taste and coffee defects. She received a perfect score on all 22 tests.
Ross is the master roaster at Hula Daddy Kona Coffee LLC in Holualoa.
“Hula Daddy is committed to producing the highest quality coffee in Hawaii,” said Karen Paterson, president of Hula Daddy. “Laura’s Q grader status ensures that all of our coffees meet the highest possible standards in the industry.”
