Four robbery suspects were arrested after a homeless man’s possessions were taken in an automobile incident, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
“One of the suspects reportedly befriended a 38-year-old homeless man at the Downtown Hilo bus terminal and offered him a place to stay,” says a police statement. “A car containing three male occupants then drove the other two men to Honomu, where the victim was told to secure the trunk, into which he had put all his possessions. When the victim returned to the car, the doors were locked. As the victim attempted to prevent the car from leaving, the car ran into the victim, causing minor injuries and noticeable damage to the vehicle.”
The suspects allegedly allowed the victim back into the car, “where he was punched and threatened with a knife.”
The victim grabbed a cellphone, got out of the car and called 911, police said.
“Patrol officers stopped the car a short time later and arrested 18-year-old Isaac Anderson-Belisario of Hilo, 24-year-old Theodore Doi of Pahoa, 22-year-old Joey Gonsalves of Keaau and 19-year-old Jason Johnson of Pahoa,” the police statement says.
Doi was charged with violating terms of supervised release and appeared in court the next day.
Thursday night, detectives charged Anderson-Belisario with robbery, terroristic threatening, assault, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $16,500.
Johnson was charged with assault and reckless endangering, and his bail was set at $2,500.
Gonzalves was charged with assault, and his bail was set at $500.
