The Big Island Substance Abuse Council completed its annual therapy kit drive for children who are victims of abuse and/or domestic violence.
A project that was started last year by a high school senior has continued with the hopes of making a difference in an abused keiki’s life. Children receive these kits to help provide a little comfort during a very difficult time. Each backpack includes a blanket, stuffed animal, toiletries, coloring books, notebooks, pencils and crayons.
The kits will be distributed through the East Hawaii Children’s Justice Center and BISAC.
“We were able to collect items for over 100 kits” said BISAC CEO Dr. Hannah Preston-Pita. “With continued support from many organizations, community members and an outpouring of support at our Walmart drives, we are able to inspire change and make a difference in a child’s life.”
