“Octo’Nut,” a mixed-media sculpture of a Hawaiian day octopus (he‘e mauli) by Maka Kahoilua, is one of the many works entered in the Hawai‘i Nei 2016 juried art show at the Wailoa Center in Hilo. The contest, which celebrates endemic Hawaiian plants and animals, closes Dec. 15. The show is co-produced by Three Mountain Alliance, Area Reserve System, Mauna Kea Forest Restoration Project and the Wailoa Center.
