Police arrested a 23-year-old Hilo man and a 24-year-old Waimea woman Thursday in connection with a theft Jan. 14 at the Hilo Target store.
The man, Ashton Silva-Cuba, was charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree theft. The woman, Kawena Kaelyn McCarroll, was booked on suspicion of second-degree robbery and released from custody pending further investigation.
A police spokeswoman said electronic accessories valued at $240.92 were stolen.
The reason for the robbery charge, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison, is because the pair allegedly struggled with a store employee outside the store, according to the spokeswoman.
The incident was the subject of a police media bulletin with surveillance camera images.
Silva-Cuba’s bail was originally set at $5,250, but during his initial court appearance Friday, Hilo District Judge Peter Bresciani granted Silva-Cuba supervised release status and ordered him to return Feb. 7 for a preliminary hearing.
