Hilo Reign youth rugby begins Wednesday, from 4 to 6 p.m. at MalamaMA park. The is the park across the highway from the zoo entrance. All youngsters, boys and girls, ages 7 through 13 are welcome.
Youth rugby is touch rugby, not yet tackle. You can just show up and check it out or sign up on line at USA rugby “Hilo Reign”. The Hilo squad plays against teams from Waimea, Kona and Puna. Season starts in January and practices will be only one to two times a week. Cost is $25 per player for the youth rugby season.

Viks softball, baseball
Tryouts for the Hilo High School junior varsity softball team will begin at 5 p.m. Jan. 3 at Keaukaha and continue Jan. 4 at Carvalho Park.
Hilo High School JV baseball will begin tryouts at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at Wong Stadium.
