John “Jack” Edward Prettyman Sr., 79, of Holualoa died April 20 at home. Born in Chester, Pa., he was a charter boat captain, owner of Notorious Sportfishing, former police officer and U.S. Army veteran. The Rev. Lon Arthur Rycraft, 65, of Corvallis, Ore., died April 30 in Oregon. Born in Corvallis, he was a retired minister who served as pastor at Hilo Coast United Church of Christ in Honomu and associate pastor at Church of the Holy Cross in Hilo, plus 11 years as pastor at Kana‘ana Hou Siloama in Kalaupapa, Molokai. While on the Big Island, he served as a director for East Hawaii Coalition for the Homeless, helping organize the first homeless shelter on the island, and was the first chaplain for Hospice of Hilo.
