Hilo High girls soccer
The Hilo High girls soccer team will have a tryout registration meeting at 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 21 at the school’s Room C127 (near the library). A parent and a student are asked to attend. If a student is unable to attend due to participating in a fall sport, her parent should attend. The meeting will discuss the mandatory tryouts, conditioning, preseason tournaments and the upcoming JV and varsity season.
Each student-athlete is required to have a sports physical completed before the tryouts. Soccer shoes, shin guards, and running shoes are required for practices.

HGEA tennis fun day
HGEA Tennis Fun Day will be held on Aug. 20 at the Edith Kanakaole Multipurpose Stadium from 1 to 4 p.m. HGEA members (free) and their guests ($2 fee) are invited to participate in social tennis doubles. Tennis balls will be provided. For information contact Dean at dsharp79@gmail.com.
Watanabe hits ace
Walter Watanabe, age 65, scored a hole-in-one with a 3 iron on the par 3, 194 yard 10th hole Tuesday, Aug. 8 at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
Witnessing the ace were Sheldon Furutani, Shin Suzuki and Mike Nagao.
This was Watanabe’s third hole-in-one and his first at the Hilo course.

Wahine play UH-Hilo
The UH Rainbow Wahine basketball team will play UH-Hilo in an exhibition game Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Wahine open their season in the Pacific Northwest, where they play Portland on Friday, Nov. 10 and Seattle University on Sunday, Nov. 12.
UH (12-18) returns all five starters, including first-team, All-Big West pick Sarah Toeaina.
Last season, the Rainbow Wahine beat the Vulcans 84-63.
