Bettylou “BJ” Jenkins Ackerman, 81, of Kealakekua died Oct. 6 at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born in Holualoa, she was a retired lomilomi massage therapist, front office manager for the former Kona Inn Resort and founding member of Calvary Community Church. Mariano Udarbe Ubilas, 90, of Kapaau died Sept. 23 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Magsingal, Ilocus Sur, the Philippines, he was a kitchen utility worker at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a U.S. Army veteran. All-night vigil at 6 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 19) at the family’s residence, 54-2451 Kynnersley Road in Kapaau. Visitation 8 a.m. Friday (Oct. 20) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi.
