Man accused of snapping chicken’s neck at Target
HONOLULU (AP) — A 56-year-old man is accused of snapping a chicken’s neck in front of an Oahu Target store after he was asked to leave because he brought a dead black bird in with him.
Walter Anderson was arrested Nov. 3 shortly after employees say he killed the chicken that was in a tree near the Kailua Target and then grabbed another chicken from the tree and walked to the bus stop with it.
Anderson pleaded not guilty Thursday to second-degree cruelty to animals. He was released after posting $300 bail.
Target employees allowed Anderson to purchase the items in his cart despite him waving a dead black bird at people, but then asked him to leave. That’s when they say he snapped the chicken’s neck before walking away carrying another chicken.
An employee told the police Anderson killed the chicken “for no apparent reason in a cruel and inhumane way.” The employee said Anderson was shouting profanities when he killed the bird.
The store banned Anderson.
Weather possible factor in wreck
HONOLULU (TNS) — A 66-year-old man was transported in critical condition to a hospital after he was struck by a vehicle in Hauula, Oahu.
Just after 11:40 p.m. Sunday, a vehicle operated by a 35-year-old man was traveling south on Kamehameha Highway when it struck the pedestrian fronting the 7-Eleven store. Police said the man was not in a crosswalk.
Police said excessive speed and alcohol were not involved, but weather and lighting conditions might have been factors.
Man sought in Palolo robbery
HONOLULU (TNS) — Police are asking for the public’s help with finding a man who assaulted the owner of a Palolo, Oahu, store during a robbery, then tried to seek a getaway ride from a passing motorist.
At about 8:20 p.m. Thursday, the man brandished a black handgun inside the Rainbow Valley Supermarket on Palolo Avenue and struck the owner in the face and head before demanding money, police said.
The owner opened the cash register, and the suspect took cash before leaving.
Outside the store, the suspect stopped a passing motorist, got into a passenger seat and asked the driver for a ride, police said. The driver got out to confront the man, who ran away, police said.
Police described the robber as 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 200 pounds. He was wearing a black cap, red bandanna, white T-shirt and shorts, with a black glove on his right hand and a white glove on his left hand.
