Gatorade honored Konawaena senior Dawnyelle Awa as its Hawaii Girls Basketball Player of the Year for her accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
Awa averaged 11.2 points per game in helping the Wildcats win a second straight Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I championship, Kona’s third title during Awa’s career.
Awa maintained a 3.42 GPA and has signed a national letter of intent to play at Washington State on scholarship.
Kanisha Bello (2009 Waiakea graduate) and Nancy Hoist (Kona, 2004) are former Gatorade winners.
