April is National Volunteer Month, and the coordinators of the Project Hawaii Summer Camp invite folks to share their talents with homeless isle keiki.
Founder Magin Patrick said the nonprofit organization is run solely by volunteers and supported entirely by public donations.
“Our summer camp is offered free of charge to poverty stricken to enhance their lives, build self-esteem and life skills,” she said. “We are a USDA Certified Summer Nutrition Program and will provide three healthy meals and two snacks per day. In addition, we run a well rounded educational program that helps them to develop life skills for their future.”
Coordinators of the project invite groups, clubs and individuals to help with Menu Food Drives this month.
“Our deadline is May 15 to collect enough food or donations to fill hungry keiki tummies,” Patrick said. “We have made it easy to sponsor a meal or snack.
“To help us keep our keiki minds stimulated and bodies healthy, we invite the community to volunteer and share their talents with our keiki. Join us for our Adventures Abound Day Theme Camp or for our Edu-Camp sleepover session,” she said. “Our children are so excited to learn new things, explore the wonders of our island and see what this world has in store for them.
“We have one-to-two-hour spots open to fill with your talents. What are you passionate about? Share it with our keiki and help them develop a healthy start in their educational years,” Patrick said. “(This is) open to artist, musicians, science enthusiasts, educators, dance instructors, etc.” Visit www.ProjectHawaii.org, call 987-6018 or email summercamp@projectHawaii.org.
