I’m more offended by the sentiment expressed in (McWarren Mehau’s April 21) letter than whether any national “prayer day” for whatever religion is declared by President Obama or not.
There are no “sides” in true religion. If this person sees sides, I would suggest a soul-searching is in order. We are more than a “Christian nation,” more than a “Muslim brotherhood.” At least I would like to think so.

Extortion?
Let me be sure I have this straight: Three people with secure government jobs knowingly broke the rules about alcohol on county property and running a business there, and ADMITTED it?
They were fired. Now, they want their jobs back, back pay, a public apology AND $10,000 or they’ll sue? Isn’t that extortion?
What did I miss? In what way were they “falsely accused, wrongly fired and publicly embarrassed”? Didn’t they “acknowledge that drinking and sign making” were going on? Didn’t they know this was against the rules? I would have been embarrassed to admit that, too.
What kind of lesson would the buckling under to these demands send? Congratulations to County Council members Yagong, Hoffman, Ford and Smart for voting against this kind of foolishness. Send the message: If you are lucky enough to have a good job, pay attention to the rules and stay employed!

Not user-friendly
Last month, I had an automobile safety-inspected. This month, I received a registration renewal notice in the mail. I usually handle this via online registration. However, this notice indicated that the vehicle needs to be inspected prior to submitting my renewal request.
Keeping in mind that the inspection took place over a month ago, I inquired to the “DMV” (motor-vehicle registration department) as to why they were asking me to have it inspected again. The local DMV office referred me to the inspector supervisor, after stating that the computer did not show the inspection being completed. He stated that he did no know why the records were not current and did not know how far behind the input was. I must now go to a DMV office, in person, with that information in order to renew my registration — wasting my time and gas.
A few months ago, I was stopped by an officer who stated that the vehicle that I was driving did not show it as inspected on the computer system, even though I had a current inspection sticker, and I was suspected of stealing a sticker and putting it on the vehicle.
This is not a user friendly system. It would make more sense to have the inspection and the registration expire at the same time and have both renewed together. Another government “efficient” system.
