Chess players invited to join in Saturday games
For the past four weeks at the Keaau Village Market, a handful of chess players have spent their Saturdays focused, glued to their seats and thinking about their next moves.
“They appear to be in total concentration throughout the entire game. They play for hours and hours, from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m., and several players still don’t want to quit,” said spokesman Jim Lee.
Everyone is invited to join the five to eight regulars who adhere to the motto: “Chess is Life and Life is Chess.”
Lee noted that playing chess improves memory, helps one meet daily challenges, to plan, to organize, to “offend and defend approaches” and — most of all — to meet good friends.
