Board approves request to modify high school graduation requirements

The state Board of Education on Thursday unanimously voted to approve a request to modify high school graduation and commencement requirements for the graduating class of 2020, allowing the state Department of Education “to move forward with finalizing a graduation plan that principals, complex area and state leadership have been developing over the past two weeks,” the DOE said in a news release.

DOE extends school closures

Public schools will remain closed for a total of three weeks to help slow the spread of COVID-19, and all DOE offices, except those for essential function will be closed for the next 15 days, the department said Thursday.

Kalanianaole Avenue detour postponed

A one-way traffic pattern scheduled to go into effect March 23 on a portion of Kalanianaole Avenue is being postponed to allow for changes to improve traffic flow at the affected intersections, the county Department of Public Works announced Wednesday.
