Lava prompts election officials to mail absentee voting applications

Power outage caused by toppled pine tree

Hawaii Electric Light Co. reports about 2,100 customers experienced a power interruption shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday after high winds apparently toppled a pine tree, which fell onto and broke lines near Kynnersley Road in North Kohala.

Land Board levies fines for illegal lava boat tours

The Board of Land and Natural Resources voted Friday to approve administrative fines against Henry K. Pomroy, Bill A. Fujimoto, and Hookupu Fish Co. LLC, regarding instances of illegal commercial lava boat tours on Hawaii Island.
